Bone Density Testing
Chicago & Oak Park Bone Density Testing and Osteoporosis Screening
Advanced Physical Medicine wants to warn every user of this site: early detection of osteoporosis helps treat the condition more effectively! Schedule you bone density testing today at our Chicago or Oak Park locations to help determine your risk of osteoporosis.
Our DTX machine measures how many grams of calcium and other minerals are packed into the bone at the forearm. If the mineral content is high, the bone is dense and less likely to break. Our DTX is a unique densitometer that sends a digital X-ray onto a screen, which measures the bone density in the distal part of the forearm. We chose this site because extensive research has shown that the forearm is an excellent site because it is representative of the total body bone mass. Bone density measurements at the forearm are significantly correlated to measurements made at the spine and proximal femur. Also, in some cases, measurements in the spine are significantly affected by arthritic changes in the vertebrae. The presence of osteophytosis in the spine increases the bone mineral density, thus causing false-positives.
